Aesthetic Surgery Journal
, a peer-reviewed, international journal focusing on scientific developments and clinical techniques in aesthetic surgery, recently published a new study, “High Participant Satisfaction Achieved Using Cryolipolysis for Fat Reduction of the Abdomen and Flanks
”, that was led by Dr. Terence Tan
Dr. Terence Tan, medical director and founder of Halley Medical Aesthetics
and Halley Body Slimming Clinic
, firmly believes in the scientific basis behind the art of medical aesthetics. As a result, he has always been actively involved in research, particularly on the use of CoolSculpting
for body contouring, and his research has been presented in international meetings, from Monaco and Spain to Japan, China, and the Middle East.
Together with an international team of doctors and surgeons, Dr. Terence Tan led this study back in 2019 to assess the multidimensional aspects of satisfaction following cryolipolysis treatment of the flanks and abdomen.
Cryolipolysis research findings
Participants for this CoolSculpting study were recruited from seven sites across four countries, namely Australia, Canada, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. The participants reported a high level of satisfaction with the treatment.
This was the first international CoolSculpting study to enrol participants across four countries generating data on participant-reported insights and safety from a more geographically diverse population. This was also the first known study to assess participant satisfaction as a primary endpoint for non-invasive fat reduction by cryolipolysis by administering three questionnaires designed to capture patient-reported outcomes (PROs) more reflective of cryolipolysis treatment of the midsection.
Summary of the study shows that the 89.6% of the 106 participants were “very satisfied” and “satisfied” with their treatment.
Satisfaction was high regardless of body area(s), total number of treatment cycles, or baseline body mass index (BMI). The study also shows a progressive reduction in fat volume quantified by 3D imaging analysis with a mean [standard deviation] fat volume reduction of 149.1 (280.61) mL at eight weeks and 264.8 [411.4] mL at 12 weeks post treatment.
In fact, patients who received a higher number of cycles observed a higher reduction in fat volume compared to those who received less.
Overall, 90.6% reported “noticeable” or “very noticeable” fat reduction, 89.6% were “likely” or “very likely” to treat additional areas, and 93.4% would recommend cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting) to a friend.
This CoolSulpting research led by Dr. Terence Tan contains a lot more details and information than what is reported here.
