HIFU, or high intensity focused ultrasound, is a treatment that is loved by many when it comes to non-invasive skin firming treatments. But HIFU can do more than firming and tightening! At Halley Medical Aesthetics, you can also brighten your skin with HIFU.
HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy to penetrate deep into our skin, going pass the epidermis and dermis layer to heat up our body’s superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS), which is a layer of muscles and connective tissue that is rich in collagen. When this soft tissue is warmed up, collagen is produced, thus firming up loose, saggy skin.
This is a no downtime, non-surgical treatment as the ultrasound energy does not affect the surface of the skin. The focused ultrasound energy of this treatment penetrates the skin at depths of 4.5mm, 3.0mm, and 1.5mm to induce collagen production for skin firming and tightening. A minimum of three sessions done once a month is required for results to be optimal.
HIFU accomplishes different objectives by the use of different transducers, which deliver energy to different depths of the skin to achieve either firming or brightening. For skin brightening, HIFU targets ultrasound energy at 2mm under the surface of the skin in the area known as the dermis. This no downtime, non-invasive treatment contracts and blocks the capillaries in the skin to reduce flushing or redness of the skin and minimise the appearance of spider veins on the face.
This treatment also widens blood vessels, which is also known as vasodilation, to promote blood circulation and oxygenation of the tissues. The result is a healthier, brighter-looking skin tone. Some lifting is achieved at the same time with this treatment, thereby reducing pore size and improving our skin texture and the appearance of fine lines. A minimum of three sessions done once a month is required for results to be optimal.
